NAPIER LIGHTHOUSE
Proposed Removal to Bluff Hill Consideration of the projected removal ol the lighthouse from the prison reserve to the top of Bluff Hill is to be given by the works committee of the Napier Harbour Board in response to a request from the Merchant Service Guild because the coloured lighting system on the Marine Parade interferes with vision to the light in it® present position. The harbourmaster, Captain II White-Parsons, has complained that as the result of other lights in the vicinity it is practical!} impossible to distinguish the lighthouse light. Although the light can be seen for 19 miles in ordinary conditions, a position on the top of Bluff Hill, where there are no lights to interfere with the vision, would be a better position. A gas cylinder controls the light, which continues unattended lor at least 70 days. It is maintained by the Napier prison authorities. If the Harbour Board decides Io comply with the request and the light is placed on the top of the hill the light will be visible over a radius of many miles Captain White-Parsons stated however that it would bp screened Q o that it would not bo a source of annoyance to resident- of the surrounding listrict
