TOWN’S GROWING NEEDS
Water Consumption Doubled CONCRETE FOOTPATHS An indication that during the past 12 years the water consumption in Hastings has increased by well over 100 per cent, was given at the meeting of the Hastings Borough Council last evening, when the engineer (Mr. C. E. Evans) presented a special report regarding water consumption in response to a request made by the Mayor (Mr. G. A. Maddison). The report stated that the water consumption for the past year was 193,018,952 gallons and the estimated consumption for the present year was 415,845,000 gallons. Since March 1, 1924, to March 31 last 1042 sewer connections and 1059 water connections had been made.
In addition the engineer reported that the total length of concrete footpaths formed in the borough was approximately 42| miles and of this about 41) miles had been formed since April, 1921.
‘‘This information gives some idea ol tho great growth of the borough,” said Mr. Maddison, "ami it .should be noted that despite the extra capital cost involved in meeting these works th-? rate .11: i l . •. unimproved value has not been ir.r-t cased.” The report was received.
