SCHOOL PICNIC

Havelock North Outing DAY SPENT ON DOMAIN The picnic of the Havelock North School was held on Friday. Arrange meats had been made to hold the picnic at Windsor Park, but owing to the uncertainty of the weather it was held ou the Domain at Havelock North. During the morning light rain fell and permission was kindly given by the Rev. it. B. Waugh to use the Presbyterian Sunday School Hall for games. As at interlude, free ice-creams were handed to the children. At noon the children sat down to enjoy a hearty lunch, after which children and adults joined in an eu joyable community sing. The singing showed that the children’s high spirits were not affected by the weather. Great was the joy of all when, at 2 o’clock, the weather improved sufficiently to allow the sports programme to bo carried out in tlio Domain. Keen competition was shown in all events. At the end of the sports programme all those children who had not won a race were given a small consolation prize. Tea and a lolly scramble brought to a close a thoroughly enjoyable day.

The staff and committee wish sincerely to thank the parents and those who are not directly connected with the school for their generous donations of money, cakes, fruit, etc. A glimpse of the happy faces of the children would amply repay those who subscribed towards making the day a success. Thanks must also be given to the willing band of helpers who gave their services during the day in preparing meals and providing entertainment.
