DISASTROUS FLOODS
28 Perish in United States 50 MILLION DOLLARS DAMAGE (Received 16, 8.45 n.m.) NEW YORK, March 14. At least 28 persons perished in floods which have swept north-eastern States during the past 24 hours. A combination of melting ice Mid torrential rains raised dozens of rivers draining into the Atlantic, causing widespread disruption of railway and highway communications and isolating several communities along the New Jersey coast. Throughout New England scores of factories located along streams were put out of commission. At least 200,000 have been temporarily thrown out of work.
. The property damage is estimated In exceed 50,000,000 dollars. The flood areas extended northward into Canada, where several deaths are reported.
