AUSTRALIAN RACING

City Tattersall’s Meeting SARCHERIE’S STAKES By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright SYDNEY, March 15. The weather was fine for the City Tattersall’s races at Randwick on Saturday. Peter Pan, although beaten out of a place in the Randwick Stakes, was not disgraced. He was pocketed at the turn when he appeared to falter, yet just missed a place. The winner, Sarcherie, made her own pace, and although hotly challenged by Gay Blonde, lasted loug enough to win by a narrow margin. The N.Z. gelding Master Brierly, got away badly, while Scratchmere Scar shaped reasonably well. Contact looked extremely dongerous to the last stride. Limarch broke down at the half-mile. The Youthful Stakes was notable for the failure of Billy Boy, who got a bad start and almost came down at the half-mile and finished last. The winner, Talking, won in great style from the much-fancied candidate, Spirits. Egmont (N.Z.-bred) was just beaten in the City Tattersall’s Cup, won by Salamander, who was always in the leading division. Hadrian fulfilled expectations by winning the Denham Stakes, but did not show the same dash as when winning in the spring. Limarch fractured his near fore pastern and was removed to the veterinary hospital, where an attempt will be made to save him for the stud, providing this course is approved by his New Zealand owners, who have been communicated with by cable. The treatment to the injured leg has already been begun by the veterinary, Mr Roy Stewart. Vista, which was only beaten by half a head by Hadrain in the Denham stakes, was kicked four times at the starting barrier. Peter Pan pulled up well after the Randwick Stakes. Jockey C. Maher was suspended for a month for not making a proper effort to keep Contact straight in the Randwick Stakes, resulting in Gay Blonde and King’s Head being hampered at the home turn.
