AUSTRALIAN TOURISTS

Large Party Arrives By Telegraph.—Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 13. With over 1100 Australian tourists on board, the P. and O. liner Strathnaver arrived at Auckland this afternoon on the final trans-Tasman tourist cruise of the season. Officials of the New Zealand Government Tourist Department travelled on tho liner from Australia and arranged large bookings for various overland tours during the visitors’ brief stay in the Dominion.

Many of the tourists are making one-day trips to Rotorua; others are leaving on overland rail and car tours of the North Island. All are visiting Rotorua, then proceeding via National Park, New Plymouth or Napier to Wellington.

The Strathnaver will leave Auckland at 11.15 p.m. to-morrow for Wellington, sailing from Wellington for Sydney on Monday night. This is the Strathnaver’s second trip of the season. All told there have been five tourist cruises by the Strathnaver, Strathaird, Orama and Otranto, with a total of 4600 tourists, as against. 4300 last season. The increase is the result of co-operation between the Tourist Department and interested shipping companies. This is regarded by all parties as a particularly hopeful sign for the future,.
