FINGERNAIL MODES
Individualism has returned to fingernail fashions. In the early history ol tinted finger-nails, smart women were limited to just a single shade of red or pink. Now, there are some 40 shades of nail varnish, which goes to prove that tinted nails have definitely taken their place in the social world. For the present season the newest shades are copper, and no fewer than 13 “pearl” shades. The copper has been specially mode to wear with tweeds, for country house parties. For sunburn make-up there is a pale apricot bronze of a dead leaf shade that is intended to take the place of the vivid red that was used last year in the sun-tan outfit. For debutantes whose mothers desire a varnish not too brilliant, and for white-haired women, the pearl shades have been compounded; they give a translucent delicate shimmering effect. These paler shades of pearl arc eminently suitable for day wear when too bright a colour is in many cases undesirable.
