WAIPAWA BOROUGH
Monthly Meeting of Council The monthly meeting of the Waipawa Borough Council was held last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr C. G. E. Harker), Crs. E. McGregor, W. M. Murray, H. T. Limbrick and F. R. Furniinger. The borough overseer, Mr R. I’etherick was also in attendance. Leave of absence was granted to Cr. F. Eagle. Mr W. Robertshaw requested the council to alter the sewerage installation on his property in Victoria street by connecting it up through Mr Carson’s property, with a view to eliminating the present defect.—The Mayor reported that he, Cr. Limbrick and the overseer had inspected the site of the proposed work, and Mr Carson had expressed some unwillingness at having the connection made through his property. Before anything could be done, it was necessary that levels should be taken to see that the change would bring about the desired result.—The matter was left in the hands of the linance committee with power to act. The Hawke's Bay Development Council made application for a grant to assist with their work.—The Mayor reported that he had attended a meeting called to furnish local bodies with information on the work of the council, and it appeared to be serving a very j useful purpose.—A grant of £2 2/- was j authorised on the motion of Crs. Limbriek and Murray. Mr N. J. McKay wrote forwarding for approval a plan of land given by Mr JuU for the purposes of a park; also for approval a plan of subdivision of Mr Jull’s property in Waverley street being sold to Mrs Kiddles. —Approval was given in both coses. In connection with applications rl cently called for purchase of fire-'.jod on borough reserves, or alternatively, the cutting of it for the council, the finance committee reported that the matter had not yet been finalised. A number of tenders have been received and the committee would deal with them immediately, and the matter will be disposed of during the coming week. vention week. —The lire committee Is to co-operate with Fire Brigade. In connection with the loan conversion scheme, the council passed a resolution striking a consolidated rate, and authority was given for the setting up of a consolidated sinking fund with the Public Trustee as Sinking Fund Commissioner. The Mayor sr d that since the last meeting of the council the members of the Licensing Committee had been appointed. An election had been rendered unnecessary by the withdrawal of Mr W. A. Chambers. As this had resulted in .. considerable saving to the council a letter expressing appreciation of his action is to be sent to him. The installation of two culverts in Abbotsford road was authorised.
