The Waipukurau Chess Club played the following matches on Friday evening:— Championship tourney: White beat James; Jacobsen beat Stapleton; Walker beat Stapleton. White cannot be beaten for the championship. Handicap tourney: Murphy (2) beat Robinson (0); Murphy (1) beat Walker jnr. (0).
The committees for the four queen candidates for the Waipukurau Swimming Baths Association’s Queen Carnival are working hard to secure the return of their respective candidates. The votes cast now stand as follow:— Sports queen 600, country queen 580, town queen 560, Maori queen 200.
