Wallingford Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Wallingford Women’s Institute, held at Wallingford on Friday last, was husbands' evening, Mrs J. D. Ormond presiding over an exceptionally largo attendance of members and visitors. Routine business was dealt with and Airs L. Wilson was appointed delegate to attend the half-yearly council meeting, to be held at Alakotuku. After the business had been dealt with, Airs Ormond extended a cordial welcome to the visitors, hoping they would all enjoy the evening's entertain ment. The Institute members presented an excellent programme, songs being rendered by Airs E. McNutt, Miss R Robson and Air T. Jackson; pianoforte solos by Mrs T. Hobson and Alias A. Wilder. The Drama Circle staged “The Spinster jif Lushe”, which was much appreciated.

Two competitions were entered into with zest, the first. “Finding Birds’ Names,” being won by Air J. Byrne; and “Well-known Celebrities,” Aliss AL Wilson and Aliss S. Alonckton, equal. The competitions for the month, “Best Collection of Flowers,” Mrs Jackson 1, Airs Byrne 2, Airs R. P. Wilder 3; “Prettiest Bowl of Flowers,” Aliss R. Hobson 1, Mrs P. Canning 2. A delicious supper was served by Alesdames Annette, Scott, Beven, Geen ty, Judd and Absolom, after which Air Byrne, on behalf of the husbands, thanked the members for the very enjoyable evening.
