RESCUED FROM FLAMES
Pilot in Blazing Aeroplane
BURNS AND OTHER INJURIES
(Received 17, 10.30 a.m.) PERTH, Sept. 17
When the aeroplane he was piloting over the Maryland® airport crashed and burst into flames, Mr Alex Gilpin, aged 24 years, a member of the “Daily News” literary staff, was badly injured and burned.
Watchers saw the machine afire as Mr Gilpin struggled from the cockpit. He was handicapped by a broken leg and fell back into the flames. Rescuers dragged him to safety.
