Maraekakaho Institute

Mrs J. Graham presided over the September* meeting of the Maraekakalio Women's Institute which was held in the hall on Thursday. The attendance was only fair, many apologies being received from members unable to attend.

The president welcomed Mrs Eaton who had come to address the meeting. Two new members were also welcomed.

Members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy with two members who had recently suffered bereavement. The balance-sheet of the dance held in aid of the hall funds was presented

by Mrs Gascoyne and showed a substantial profit. Special mention was made of the excellent work of the supper committee and doorkeeper.

Resolutions to come before the forthcoming conference at Bay View were read, and a delegate was elected to attend the conference.

A most entertaining and instructive hour was spent in listening to Mrs Eaton, who spoke of India and her personal experiences there. At the conclusion a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Eaton.

Results of the competitions for the day were as follow: —Prettiest coathanger; Airs Dasent. Sultana cake: Mrs Leggett. Decorated vase: Mrs Foreman 1, Mrs J. Graham 2. Best bloom: Mrs Foreman 1, Mrs J. Graham 2. A much-appreciated tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames McLear, Tankersley, Reynolds and McConachie.
