WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
Bay View Meeting
The Bay View Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting last Wednesday afternoon in King George’s Hall, Bay View. Mrs A. McHardy presided over a fair attendance. Ono new member was received.
The programme opened with the Institute Song, follow’ed by the usual formal business. The motto for the day was; “There is nothing good or bad. but thinking makes it so.” A motion of sympathy was passed to Mrs Sweeting for the tragic death of her husband. The sick report was given. This showed that a few visits had been made. Mrs Sanders and Mrs Stafford were appointed sick visitors for this month. Miss D. Nicholls was chosen as delegate to attend the Northern Hawke’s Bay Federation meeting in Bay View next month. The monthly competition, best bar of home-made soap, resulted as follows: Mrs Olsen 1, Mrs Scott 2. Mrs Petersen won the hostess’s competition. A demonstration of pen-pamting given by Mrs Scott was keenly watched and appreciated, and several specimens of her work, which she brought with her, were much admired. The roll call, “What we are having for tea to-night,” was quite amusing, bringing forth some very appetising answers.
Hostesses for the afternoon were Misses Lowe, Nicholls, Stafford and Staniland, and a dainty afternoon tea was served.
