HARBOUR AFFAIRS

Board’s Monthly Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Napier Harbour Board was held to-day. Present: Messrs T. M. Geddis (chairman), J. Barker, R. D. Brown, P. F. Higgins, E. Williams, H. R. Peacock. E. J. Herrick, R. McLean, A. E. Jull, T. L. Gordon and W. Richmond.

Leave of absence was granted to Messrs L. O. Harris, L. Stephenson and J. I. Cato. ,

The Napier Borough Engineer, Mr W. D. Corbett, wrote in connection with the 475-acre block development enclosing a plan showing proposed drains estimated to cost £4l 15/-. It was further suggested that the area between Maraenui road and the plantation should be levelled at an estimated cost of £75 to £lOO.

Mr Guy Rochfort, engineer to the board, commenting on the above plan, suggested that the cost to the scheme should be reduced by the cost of the 28J chains of drains which were in the park area. Mr Rochfort again drew attention to the necessity, of designing a complete and final drainage system for the area.

Both letters were referred to the special committee controlling the block.
