Big Event to Graham Direct
A DISAPPOINTING RACE By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 14. The Wellington Trotting Ch’b - spring meeting was held in fine weather, and tho meeting of tho crack four-year-olds, Gamble and Graham Direct in the Bollard Memorial Handicap attracted a large attendance. As a spectacle, the race was disappointing, Graham Direct winning easily, with Gamble only in third place. A cold wind blew from the north and the going was shifty in places, with water near the surface. The totalisator handled £12,228 5/-, compared with £1.1,625 5/- last year. Graham Direct made no race of it over the last quarter of a mile. There was no pace on for the first mile, which took 2.28 3-5. Half a mile from homo Graham Direct ran up behind the leaders, Worthy King and Llewellyn's Pride, and shot through to lead at the home turn tc wiu comfortably by a length from Fernbrook Lass, who beat Gamble for second by four lengths. Gamble went with Graham Direct most of the way ; but was obviously troubled by the going. Fernbrook Lass ran a good race, but the others were well beaten.
