Marama Win Charity Cup DEFEAT OF CLIVE In a hard-fought match, tense 'with interest from start to finish, Marama beat Clive in the final round for the Charity Cup at League Park, Napier, on Saturday afternoon. The final score was 20 points to 11. Both sides fielded strong teams, but Marama haj the more successful set of backs, who handled extremely well and were a solid defence when Clive were on the attack. There was little to choose between the two sets of forwards. Marama led six-three at half time, and after the change over they launched a series of attacks which met with success and the score mounted rapidly. The teams were as follow:— Marama; Mapuhi, Tau Hemopo, Staples, Meafou, Kurupo, Tareha, Spadie, Pongi, Tutu, H. Bush, Koto, Wano, Blake. Clive: Jeffery, B. Bliss, Cushing, Nesbit, Williams, Griffiths, Lister, Bliss, Gordine, Purcell, Murray, Haynes and Riddell. Mr P. Exeter refereed. TARADALE BEAT UNITED. A cricket score was compiled by Taradale when they met United in the knock-out competition, the final score being 41 points to nine. Taradale’s back combination was a most successful one and the forwards were both faster and more active. The referee was Mr Bradbury. JUNIOR GAME. In a match for the Foster Cup Ahnriri defeated Clive by six points to three. The game produced football of a high standard and a fast pace was maintained throughout. For Ahuriri, T. Martin and Neal scored, neither try being converted. Sykes scored an unconverted try for Clive. Mr Gilhooly refereed. THIRD GRADE. This match was played at Clive. For Cityawa Cording scored twice and Howe once. Stent scored for Clive. The standard of football was high, both teams working hard from start to finish and providing spectators with some good back play. N.Z. Representatives The Hawke’s Bay selector, Mr L. Jaffray, has nominated R- E. Smith, N. Staples, H. Cushing and G. Murray for the New Zealand League team to meet the Australians at Wellington on September 25.
