Smaller Fat Sheep Entry

WETHERS & LAMBS STEADY Eat sheep were penned iu smaller numbers at yesterday’s sale at Stortford Lodge, and w r ere of better quality generally as far as ewe entries were concerned. These two factors combined to enhance values to the extent of 1/- to 1/6 a head on fat ewes, while wethers and lambs sold at parity levels.

Butchers were competing steadily throughout the sale, and kept export buyers out of the picture to, a great extent on any well finished lines. Despite the improved tone, however, several vendors were not prepared to accept market valuations, with consequent aassiwa.

A selection of the entries and prices paid is as follows: —

Offered on account of Mr E. H. Beamish, a pen of 10 ewes, well grown and prime, met the market at 17/3, eleven more, not so heavy, making 16/-. Eight maiden two-tooth ewes, on account of Mr E. H. Beamish, fairly grown and of prime quality, sold at 20/6.

Two wethers, well grown and finished, made 23/-. A pen of 17 ewes from Whanawhana and on account of Mr F. N. H. Beamish, well grown and prime, realised 38/-. Seven wethers, on account of Mr F. N. 11. Beamish, well grown aud finished, made 22/-.

Fourteen well grown medium finished whitoface hoggets sold at 19/4. A pair of blackface hoggets, well framed and finished, realised 20/-. Eighteen Down cross ewes, fairly grown and medium prime, made 16/6. Six two nnd four-tooth ewes, fairly grown and in prime order, sold at 22/2.

A line of 45 ewes, medium and fairly framed, plain, realised 14/3. Seventeen blackface lambs, on account of a Wairoa vendor, medium framed and finished, mnde 17/10. A pen of three wethers, medium

framed and finished, sold at 20/2. A pen of 17 ewes, well grown, medium prime, realised 16/6, a further 17 making the same figure. Offered on account of Mr L. Nelson, Whakamarumaru, 20 ewes, fairly grown and finished, made 15/3. Further pens made 14/4. Twenty blackface lambs, medium to well framed, in well finished order, passed at 22/1. Fifteen Whiteface lambs, well grown and finished, passed at 22/-. A single fairly grown and finished wether made 22/6. Ten two-tooth wethers, fairly framed and finished, met the market at 21/7. A draft of 56 ewes, on account of Mr L. G. Wilson, Hatuma, made 15/1. Ten fairly grown, well finished blackface lambs, on account of Mr R. 11. Tod, Otane, rsalised 21/-. Ten prime Southdown ewes sold at 17/6. Two prime maiden ewes made 38/6.
