WAIPAWA COUNTY RATE

Confirmed at Special Meeting SLIGHT INCREASES From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPAWA, July 24. A special meeting of the Waipawa County Council was held on Tuesday morning, when the following councillors were present; Crs. N. M. Paulsen (chairman), J. Butler, C. F. G. Bainbridge, L. Glenny, B. Gray and C. Thomsen. On the motion of the chairman and Cr. Butler, the following rates were confirmed: Waipawa Riding, Ijd in £; Ongaonga Riding, IJd; Clinton Riding Ijd; Takapau Riding, 1 l-10d in £. The rates are slightly higher than last year, but only represent the percentage of reduction in the valuations, and they are struck to bring the same amount of rates. The Argyll Water Race rate was struck at Id; the Forest Gate Water Race 3-8 d; and Lindsay 3-8 d; and the Takapau sanitation

rate at £2 10/- per pan, B. Eddy was granted permission to take a pipe under Howard’s road, Smedley, subject to the work being done to the satisfaction of the engineer. Plans were approved for the new roadman’s cottage at Takapau to replace that one destroyed by fire, and it was decided to call tenders for its erection. Bainbridge suggested that a letter be written to the stationmaster at Hastings drawing attention to the fact that stock was using the Pukehou yards and to suggest to the authorities that these yards be fenced.
