UNION CO.’s NEW LINER
The Keel Laid Information by cable has been received by the Union Company’s Hea l Office that the laying of the keel of the luxurious liner which is being built by Vickers-Armstrong Ltd., at Bar-row-in-Furness was completed on June 11. The new liner, which is intended lor the irter-colonia! service, will be of 14,000 gross tonnage, with a length of oi l feet overall and a beam of 74 feet. She will have twin screws, her turbines developing ‘20,000 shaft horsepower on service giving a speed under ordinary conditions of about 2 Unknots, which will enable her to maintain 2) day passages between New Zeeland and Sydney. Notable features oi the vessel will be glassed-in promenade decks, spacious game decks, palm court and observation room, verandah vale and dance hall, men’s and women's clubrooms, besides library and writing room, gymnasium, talkie picture equipment, lilts, punkah louvre ventilation; all first class cabins with bedsteads, reading lamps, telephones, radiators and hot. and cold wafer, with a large number of one and two-berth cabins with private bathrooms.
