FILMS NOT ON TIME
Picture Manager’s Difficulty
An extraordinary combination of unfortunate circumstances attended the arrangements made by the Hastings manager of Hawke's Bay Amusements, Ltd., to show “Sequoia” at the Regent Theatre nt the early matinee on Saturday afternoon, and “Homo on the Range” at the same matinee at the Cosy. It was a sort of theatre manager’s nightmare. Air. Tong had expected the
‘‘Sequoia” film to arrive by a service car leaving Gisborne at 0 a.m. For some reason it did not come, as it was expected to do, by that ear, which meant that it did not arrive in time for showing at the 2.15 matinee. However, it came by the. next car, and was shown at the 4.45 matinee.
That mishap alone would have been bad enough, but there was still another trick that Fate was to play. The chief film for tho Cosy Theatre was due to arrive by a train leaving Wanganui early in the morning, and was to have been shown at 2.15 o'clock. Hero again something in the arrangements went awry, and it was found that the film was not on the train. It arrived, but, like “Sequoia,” only in time to be shown at the later matinee. Mr. Tong announced at both theatres that patrons of the early matinee could use their tickets for tho later matinee, and so after all the patrons of tho two theatres, which included large numbers of expectant children, were not disappointed. Tho programmes for tho two earlier matinees were filled up with short films, a number of which were lent to Mr. Tong by the manager of Amalgamated Theatres. Air. Carson P. Shea, to whom Air. Tong pays tribute for what he describes as a much-appreciat-ed act of helpfulness.
