TROTTING PROTEST
Payment of Stakes Involved
By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 22.
A protest arising from the recent disqualification of F. J. Smith by the New Zealand Trotting Association was lodged after the running of the Mangere Handicap, in which the bracketed horses, Bonny Azure and Nelson Luvan, finished first and second. Both horses were members of F. J. Smith’s team until the time of his disqualification.
Mr A. Giles, owner of Great Chum, which ran third in the Mangere Handicap, protested against the prize money won by the first and second horses being paid over, on the grounds that the terms of Smith’s disqualification were not being complied with. An inquiry was opened and adjourned.
