LODGE HERETAUNGA
Foundation Stone Laid
CONSECRATION IN AUGUST A ceremony of considerable interest to members of the Masonic Order took place in Hastings on Saturday afternoon, when the foundation stone of the new building for Lodge Heretaunga was laid by the Rev. R. B. Waugh, Provincial Grand Master. There was an attendance of over 150 brethren and practically all the lodges in the territory were represented.
The Provincial Grand Master was assisted in the ceremonial work by Messrs O. H. Moller, C. H. Critehley and T. Hobson. The Rev. A. M. Niblock acted as chaplain. Under the stone was placed a copy of Friday’s issue of the “Tribune” in a casket, a number of jubilee stamps and a scroll containing the names of members of Grand Lodge, tho officers of the lodge, the builder, the architect and the names of the men employed on the work. Should the lodge be rebuilt, perhaps after half a century or even a century, when its usefulness has been outlived, and the stone is opened these articles will be of great interest.' Donations for the building fund, which amounted to a considerable sum, were placed on the stone. The building, which is being constructed by Mr O. Palmer, contractor, of Hastings, is expected to be completed in August, when it will bo consecrated by the Grand Master, Colonel J. J. Eston.
