PRINCE OF "WALES CUP Won by Tairawhiti By Telegraph—Press Association. GISBORNE, June 22. Scintillating Rugby was provided today when Tairawhiti (Poverty Bay, East Coast, Bay of Plenty and Hawke’s Bay) and Waipounamu (South Island) representatives met to decide the holders of the Prince of Wales Cup and the Jack Ruru Memorial Cup. Though Tairawhiti won 13—3 tho game was much more even than the scores indicated with the special interest attached to the appearance of full-backs, G. Nepia and H. Phillips (Marl borough). Nepia. gave a brilliant exhibition, his kicking being deadly accurate and his tackling even more decisive. Phillips played a great game practically up io All Black standard, and was little inferior to Nepia, whose exclusion from the N.Z. All Blacks caused great surprise locally. The best of Tairawhiti side were Nepia, D. McKinley, E. Howell. Harrison, Mataira, Whiteley, Reed, K. Reedy, Kershaw. For Waipounamu the best were Phillips, J. McDonald, Watson, Mason, Tom Robinson Purdue, B. Ward, T. Witere, and Parata.
