FOOTBALLER’S MEMORY
Tribute to Jack Ruru CEREMONY AT GISBORNE <By Telegraph- Preus Association.) GISBORNE, June 22. The memory of the prominent footballer, Sir Jack Ruru, who received fatal injuries in the Prince of Wales Cup match at Rotorua last year was honoured to-day, when a large crowd, including Maoris from all parts of New Zealand assembled for the unveiling of the headstone of his grave. To mark the occasion the parents of the deceased handed to Mr McKenzie, chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union Selection Committee, a cup and Maori mat to be competed for at future Prince of Wales Cup matches. A departure from the usual custom of laying gifts on the grave was made by the Taranaki Maoris, who each deposited pound notes as they paid their respects at the graveside.
