COMING EVENTS

The Hastings and District Scot*’ Society will hold its Ingleside on Monday night, June 24, at 8 o’clock in th* Oddfellows’ Hall, Market street. Th* assembly is at 7.55 p.m.

The British Music Society will bold its first group evening of the season at Woodford House on Tuesday next, commencing at 8 p.m. All members of the groups are invited to attend. Any persons interested and wishing to become members are requested to ring Mrs. A. Christie, group leader, telephone 3768.

The Rev. H. E. Edridge, of Wellington, a former pastor of the Hastings Baptist Church, will conduct the 26th church anniversary services in the Baptist Church to-morrow at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. His morning subject is to bo “Bringing in the Sheaves” and tor tho evening evangelistic service th* theme is entitled “Ye must be born again.” A hearty invitation is extended to everyone to hear Mr. Edridge to-morrow and' also during the ensuing four days.

Some people are no doubt under th* impression that owing to tho Napier Owner Drivers having transferred their license, the Aard Motor Services will be out of business so far as Napier and Hastings are concerned. This, however, is not the case. The Aard motor services are being carried on by the Dueo Motor Service, where seats may booked as usual to anywhere in New Zealand. Those who appreciate good music will be pleased to hear of the musical service to-morrow evening in the Hastings Methodist Church. A solo will be rendered by Mr. Walter Brough, who will song “It is Enough,” irom “Elijah,” and a violin solo, “Meditation,” will be played by Mr. J. K. Warren. Two anthems will be sung by the choir, “Across the Bar” and “Fear Not Ye O Israel.” There will be a short address by the Rev. R. li. Gosnell on the second of the “Themes from Modern Proverbs” —“It is never too late to mend.” To this bright and helpful service all are heartily invited to attend. The Hastings Citizens’ Band will give one of their popular open-air recitals in Cornwall Park, Hastings, tomorrow afternoon, commencing at 2.30 p.m. A first-class selection of items has been arranged, and a large crowd is anticipated. The items will be as follows: — March, ‘‘The Vampire” overture, “Golden Star”; waltz, “Morning Glory”; intermezzo, “Mo San”; selection, “Maid <|t the Mountains”; march, “Flying Squadron”; hymn, “Lend Kindly Light”; descriptive item, “Pop Goes the Weasal”; march, “Roughriders”; “God Save the King.” The recital will be a subsidy one.
