First Lamb of Season, The first lamb of the season in this district was born on the property of Mr. W. Sinclair, Pakowhai road, Mahora, yesterday morning.

Frost at Hastings. Hastings and surroundings district experienced a fairly severe frost this morning, tho recording in tho town being eight degrees. Following a particularly cold night residents awoke to find grass and other greenery covered with a fairly liberal coating of white, which, on account of the lack of bright sunshine, remained until a comparatively late hour. To-morrow will mark another red letter day in the educational history and activities of the Roman Catholic community of Hawke’s Bay, when the new Maori Girls’ College at Greenmeadows, which has just been erected in Osier road, on the site acquired some time ago from the trustees of the late Mr Patrick McCormack, will be blessed and officially opened by His Grace Archbishop O’Shea, S.M. The sisters of the mission cordially invite visitors to the dedication ceremony, which takes place at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday. Scenic Drive. Proposals for constructing, as an unemployment relief measure, a scenic drive through some of the finest bush iu tho Waitakero Ranges were outlined by Mr. 1. J. Goldstiue, Mayor of One ’tree Hill, at tho annual meeting of the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies’ Association. “Tho proposed drive,’’ Mr. Goldstino said, “would cover a total distance of 26 miles 32 chains. It would start at New Lynn and go through Titirangi, Cascade Park and Kauri Park to Swanson, and then back tu New Lynn. Passing through sume glorious native bush, it would make ono of the most beautiful scenic drives in New Zealand, and would be a wonderful attraction tor overseas visitors who spend only a short time in the city.”
