BRILLIANT FUNCTION

H. H. 5.0.8. Football Club Ball CHARMING DECORATIONS A most brilliant function was the ninth annual ball of the Hastings High School Old Boys’ Football Cluo., held in the Assembly Hall last evening. Several hundreds of dancers enjoyed a most delightful evening, livery detail had been considered by a very energetic committee, und the capable organisation added to the genuine pleasure in this successful tunction. The hall decorations carried out a very charming scheme with masses of multi-coloured streamers, overhead, the central part being composed of blue and white, the club’s colours. These decorations were the work of the committee under the direction of Mr. 11. B. Poppelwell. The committee comprised the following: Messrs. L. Andrews (honorary secretary), M. Murray, VV. Lochhead, K. Renoui, L. McCarthy, J. Vartan, K. Apsey, W. Reid, J. Catherull, L. McDuff, R. Robertson, L. McDougall. Messrs K. Heaton and L. Bigley were responsible for the lighting effects, many tiny coloured lights being mingled with the streamers. The very original paintings hung round the walls were much admired, these being the work ol Mr. Gordon Redward. The stage was arranged with palms and shrubs kindly lent by Webb’s Nurseries, and from here an excellent programme of dance music was played by Lew Munro’s orchestra. A delicious supper was enjoyed by the dancers during the evening. The supper-room tables were artistically arranged with lloatmg : bowls of camellias and crystal vases of Iceland poppies and bulbs. Among those present were: — Mrs. J, Redward, cherry and grey floral ninon frock with softly flared skirt. Mrs. S. 1. Jones, black stiffened net, with shoulder epaulettes and a diamante clasp finishing the neck in front and on the belt. Mrs. E, Coxon, apricot floral ninon with the skirt flared from the knees and the corsage finished with frilled epaulettes. Mrs. C. P. Hopkins, black panne velvet gown with a coatee of deep champagne velvet with white fur collar and cuffs. Mrs. L. Fisher, black skirt with evening blouse of ivory crepe suede, the full elbow length sleeves edged with black and a shoulder spray of tangerine flowers. Mrs. T. King, vieux-rose lace with insets of georgette in the skirt and puff sleeves, deeper velvet sash and flowers finishing the neck at the back. Mrs. A. Renouf, cherry crepe suede gown, the long sleeves puffed and slashed about the elbows and the corsage having a high cowl neckline in front. Mrs. H. Cooper, tangerine georgette, the skirt fully flared from knee to hem and the corsage finished with a softly draped bertha.. Mrs. V. H. Nelson, ivory stiffened net threaded with silver, a pleated flounce at the hem and pleated puff sleeves. Mrs. J. Thomas, tangerine velvet with puff sleeves, the sash tied at the back of the waist and a posy finishing the corsage in front. Mrs. R. Pearson, cherry lace with flared epaulettes, a slashed corsage at the back and a geprgette bow over one shoulder.

Miss M. Heeney, ocean-blue crepe marriette, the corsage fashioned with an oti-the-shouk.er neckline, gold shoulder straps and full puff sleeves. Miss C. Ford, ivory organdie lace with frills of stiffened net at the hem and forming epaulettes continuing down the corsage, a diamante belt clasp and natural shoulder spray. Miss M. Ford, deep cherry windswept velvet, the neck finished in front with a diamante clasp, and a black velvet coatee with high collar of white fur. Miss E. Lowe (Napier), sapphireblue georgette having a corsage of silver lame and silver sash, flared epaulettes in blue and the neck finished in front with a clasp. Miss 0. Olsen (Napier), ivory satin gown worn with a three-quarter coat of black velvet, Having full puff sleeves. Miss J. Sullivan, periwinkle-blue taffetas with tiny kilted frills at the knees, the skirt flaring fully from here and finished with a tiny frill, and bouffant sleeves. Miss N. Lowe, buttercup yellow taftas, the neckline cut high in front and to a low V at the back, and the sash in two shades of yellow hanging to the hem of the skirt. Miss J. Beach, black velvet, the corsage having a bateau neckline with gold shoulder strap, a plaited gold girdle and a brilliant clasp at the neck in front. Miss J. Jenkins, ivory satin having a full skirt of net and net epaulettes, and at the waist a plaited girdle. Miss D. Osborne, black skirt worn with an evening blouse of green, black and white plaid taffetas with a cowl neckline in front, slashed puff sleeves and black sash. Miss B. Thear, black needlerun lace with a velvet sash, flared epaulettes and outlined with silver. Miss P. Heslop green panne velvet, the long sleeves forming slashed cowls about the elbow's and lined with silver, the neck slashed at the back and also silver lined. Miss 1. Flack, green and yellow floral frock, the skirt flared to a tram, tiny buttons trimming the back and flared epaulettes over the shoulders. Miss N. Flack, blue crepe suede, the skirt finished with waterfall frills edged with narrow lace. Miss J. Ericksen, deep red velvet, the slashed back finished with a brilliant clasp and a cape of silver lame. Miss M. White, palest blue finelyfigured taffetas, the frills over the shoulders continuing down the corsage and a blue and silver girdle. Miss R. Holland, black skirt with a tunic of cloth of silver made on Russian lines with puff sleeves and a high buttoned collar. Miss B. Cartwright, ivory muslin hail spotted in cherry, blue and green, the skirt trimmed with tiny frills and frills outlining the neck and sleeves and a sash of cherry velvet Miss L. Hood, black velvet gown fashioned very fittingly, the full elbow length sleeves slashed and edged with whitte fur, shoulder spray of white flowers. Miss M. Mackay, apricot georgette with picot edged frills at the hem and outlining tho neck, and tho sash tied in a bow at the buck. Alias F. Duff, black taffeta gown, tho slashed puff sleeves composed of frills finely edged with scarlet and the same frills finishing tho flared skirt. Miss R. Tong, black taffeta trained gown, tho neckline high in front finished with a silver and black diamante bow, silver sequins finishing the back and a long silver girdle. Miss I). Burns, ocean blue velvet backless gown finished at tho neckline in front with a cluster of ivory velvet flowers. Miss J. Graham, gown of black stiffened net, the skirt fully flared from the knees, pleated epaulettes and the square neckline outlined with a plait of silver. Miss M. Joseph, lemon taffeta with a pleated frill over the shoulders continuing down tho corsage back and front, a pleated basque effect and green and lemon girdle. Miss L. Paterson, black, white and green floral ninon, the skirt very flared, the corsage slashed at the back, puff sleeves and a black velvet sash. Aliss A. Baird, ivory taffeta flowered with posies in blue, red and green, a Hat bow stitched in scarlet finishing tho corsage in front, arid at the back tiny buttons from neck to waist, scarlet velvet sash. Miss At. Flynn, mushroom pink taffeta with frills in petal effect at the hem, frilled epaulettes and a posy of pink flowers finishing the corsage iu front. Aliss J. Robertson, emerald green crepe suede, the cowl nccklino caught at one side with a brilliant clasp and the sash tied with gold. Aliss B. Robottom, green corded velvet gown with flared epaulettes, a cowl neckline lined with white, continuing to form revers at the back. Aliss D. Howard, ivory self-striped cotele having a cowl neckline back and front finished with crystal beading and a diamante belt clasp in front. Aliss AL Ballard, cherry and white pique voile with insets of rucking up tho skirt and frills at the hem, and the sash of red velvet finished with a brilliant clasp. Miss R. Simpson, deep red crinkle crepe frock worn with a coatee of black panne velvet, the short sleeves edged with white fur.

Aliss Nancy Findlay (Napier), rose pink windswept satin, having a cowl neckline caught with a brilliant clasp, and a similar clasp finishing the belt in front. Afiss AL Bamforth, scarlet, green, black and lemon plaid taffeta, very fitting to the knees and then fully flared, the sash tied in n bow in front and the neck finished «( the buck with a bow. Miss K. Crawford, blue, lemon and while floral dimity muslin with frilled epaulettes, n square neckline and sash of blue velvet. Miss M. Bateman, pink crepe suede, with flared epaulettes, a black velvet sash and black velvet cape lined with pink and having a diamante clasp at the neck. Miss AL Wyness, ivory crepe fleurita, the softly draped sleeves edged with silver, silver outlining the neck and finishing the corsage and a silver and ivory plaited girdle. Afiss I. Bateman, blue dimity muslin flowered in deeper blue with frills at the hem and forming puff sleeves, also outlining the neck, and a sash of blue ixclvct.

Miss B. Frost, Oporto red velvet, the slashed puff sleeves lined with gold, tiny gold buttons finishing the back, and a brilliiint clasp catching the cowl neckline in front.

Miss Ivy Garnett, black panne velvet with puff sleeves, a square neckline, the belt having a brilliant clasp and u lovely corsage spray of apricot pink flowers. Miss H. Bowden, ivory georgette fashioned on simple fitting lines, the sash from the waist at the sides tied at the back. Miss M. Bowden, apricot crepe suede with flared sleeves and the skirt fitting to the knees and then softly flared. Miss N. Lomas, golden silk crepe, the sleeves frilled, a brown velvet sash and shoulder spray of tangerine velvet flowers with touches, of brown. Miss’N. Mitchell, deep blue satin with frills of net at the hem and a bateau neckline edged with a plait of silver. Miss B. Harper, blue windswept satin worn with a black velvet coatee, the sleeves puffed above the elbows. Miss E. Kearney, apricot georgette, the skirt flared with inset godets of frills, frilled bertha and the sash tied in a bow at the back. Miss I.
