NAPIER GOLF BALL

Gay Scene Last Night OUTSTANDING SUCCESS Always eagerly looked forward to as the ball of the season is the annual function held by the Napier Golf Club (Waiohiki). Each year it becomes more popular and last night’s function, held in the Foresters’ Hall, was a great success. Really splendid organisation, colourful and artistic decorations, excellent choice in music and a sumptuous supper were leatures ot the 1935 ball. Air George Canning made a very efficient secretary ami the men’s committee working with him comprised Atessrs C. Louisson, 11. Inglis, J. Atoody, S. Canning, 11. 8. llindmarsh and many willing helpers. Associated with Airs F. N. Fussellf organiser of the ball) was the following committee: Mesdames S. Scoullar, F. N. Harvey, H. V. Hoadley, F. Fryer (Hastings), A. E. Lawry, Bob Whyte (Clive), H. G. Davies (Hastings), Tattersail (Pakowhai), E. Phillips, Dudley Kettle, J. L. Masterson, H. Glazebrook, E. Phillips, Alisses Joan Landels (Hastings), E. Lopdell, A>ra Ormond, Chapman, N. Gleeson, Leithead, F. Weber and many other members of the club and friends assisted. For supper there were attractive dishes—sliced turkey, duck, fowl, ham, aspics, savouries, mayonaisse, tongue, fruit salads, etc. The women members of the club were generous in providing such sumptuous tare, and in addition credit must be given them for the organisation and supper service.

The upstairs hall was used as a supper room, long tables being set at each side of the hall and one on the stage. Greenery filled the corners, shades in orange and lemon matched those the ballroom, and the Howers and serviettes also conformed to the colour scheme. Very charming were the tables. Largo glass bowls contained well-arranged yellow narcissi, Iceland poppies and fronds of maidenhair fern, while alternately were set squat howls of orange and lemon-toned marigolds arranged with fern. In the centre of the stage table was a lovely piece set in a base of black-berried sprays, in which were arranged marigolds and oranges. Credit for the floral work goes to Mesdames H. Douglas and G. F. Gardner, who were assisted by the Alisses A. Hicks and B. Bradley. Under the direction of Airs F. N. Harvey, who was responsible for the ball room the colour scheme of orange and lemon with touches of green and black was well carried out. She was ably assisted by the Misses T. Brown, N. Gleeson, B. Inglis and E. Harvey. An artistic success was achieved. The walls boro a golfing poster in silhouette made by Mrs Harvey and the Alisses B. Inglis, M. Mackay and B. Morling. Orange and lemon twisted streamers draped the doorways and windows. Petal shades in the two colours covered the central and wall lights. At the doorways and in corners green and orange-covered stands were filled with featheS willow branches, in which were set mammoth lemon and orange poppies with black centres. A letter was placed on each forming the words “Waiohiki Club’’ round the room. The .stage had a front decoration of pot palms and cyclamen, the edge being finished with pot ferns and poinsettia* at each side. Below were posters of rabbit silhouettes and above were strung letters forming “Napier Golf Club.” Delightful music was played by the new Majestic Orchestra, which played from the stage. Alessrs Blythes Ltd. arranged a very cosy lounge in the right-hand corner of the ballroom, being decorated to tone. The downstairs supper room matched the ballroom.
