ATHLETICS AND CYCLING

Napier Club’s Meeting FORNE WINS 1000 YARDS There has been no diminishing of interest in the Napier Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club’s evening meetings as the season draws to a close. The attendance for iast night’s meeting at McLean Park was again encouraging, and the sport, as a consequence of excellent handicapping, always exciting. The principal event so far as the running was concerned was the 1000 yards race, in which E. Fornc, national mile champion, overtook the remainder of the field from scratch about 220 yards from the finish and ran in with a wide margin to spare. In the three-lap walk Driscoll, also starting from scratch, had to admit that his handicap was too big to enable him to overtake his star pupil, Atkinson.
