British and Finnish Visitors HANDICAP EVENTS To-morrow (Wednesday) night should see. a record attendance at McLean Park, Napier, for on that evening the team of British athletes, and the two Finnish exponents of field athletics, will make their only appearance in Hawke’s Bay. At Auckland on Saturday, the, Finlander, Perasalo, created a fresh New Zealand high jump record by clearing tho bar at 0 it. 5 in., while his compatriot, Sippala threw the javelin nearly 220 ft. and the discus 132 It. 8 m. i he English runners ate improving with ever, run, and whan Rampling broke 50 toes, at Auckland, in the quartci mile, his performance was a really good one, as lie had a head w ind and a rather heavy track to contend with. He is likely to do better to-morrow night, lor L. Patchett and A. .Milne will take him along at a good pace. R. M. Craske, the British cross-eouu-try champion wdl be fully extended to beat the local champion, E. Forne, and tho contest should be one of the most exciting of the evening. The British half-miler Powell, has shown good form over that distance, and can be expected to put up good time. There are in addition to the various events in which the visitors will take part, a number of handicap events for both runners and cyclists, and the programme, taken altogether, will be the best probably ever put on at Napier. Owing to the lengthy programme the sports will commence promptly at 7 o’clock, and those who do not wish to miss any of the events in which the visitors will compete are advised to bo in attendance early.
