OBITUARY

Mr. Robert L. Limbrick

Napier has lost another of its wellknown identities and most respected citizens by the death on Monday night, at the Napier Hospital, of Mr. Robert Loosemore Limbrick, founder of the firm of R. Limbrick and Son, cycle dealers. The late Air. R. L. Limbrick was born in Redfern, New South Wales, 65 years ago this month, and was the elder son of Air. Edward Limbrick, builder. He came to Napier with his wife and one child, in 1893, and had resided here practically ever since. A carpenter by trade he was for several years in the employ of Alessrs. Hull Bros, afterwards taking employment with the late Air. H. J. Holder, builder and contractor . He retired from this after some years to enter into business with his son, < nd established the now well-known bicycle business of R. Limbrick and Sou. This business grew rapidly, but on the return of Mr. Limbrick’s son, Air. L. A. Limbrick, from the Great War, Mr. R. L. Limbrick retired from active participation in the cycle business, leaving that to his son, and became a taxi-proprietor. This business lie carried ou until shortly before his death. He was well-known throughout the district for his kindly disposition, and his readiness to render assistance to need when it was in his power to do so. On the occasion of the big earthquake in 1931, Air. Lirabrick, placed himself and his car at the disposal of the authorities for the removal of the distressed populace to places of safety, and he worked assiduously night and day for several weeks in performing this service. His work at that trying time will not soon be forgotten by those who were cognisant of it. Of a quiet, unassuming though essentially active character, he gained the liking and esteem of all who came in contact with him. He was a member of the Loyal Napier Lodge of Oddfellows, and also a Freemason. He was predeceased by his wife some two years ago. He leaves to mourn their loss, a grown up family of three children, Air. L. A. Limbrick, and Mrs. H. Schierning, of Napier, and Air. Roy Limbrick, of Wellington, and also a brother, Air. Edward Limbrick, of Aleeanee. To these, in their bereavement will be extended the sympathy of a wide circle of friends. Mrs. Hannah Murphy The death has occurred of Mrs. Hannah Alurphy A1.8.E. She was one of the most unobtrusive and constant patriotic workers in Wellington during the Great War and afterwards. She gave a helping hand in every cause for the benefit of returned soldiers and the defence forces. She was 81 years of age.
