Hockey Representatives
(To the Editor). Sir, —Knowing that your paper always has the best interests of sport at heart, I would like you to make public the following anent the selection of the Hawke's Bay hockey team that was defeated by the Aussies last Thursday: —Waimarama, the Maori team, came through the season with an unbeaten record, winning the Hastings championship and the banner, scoring the most goals and having tho least goals scored against them. Yet, in the team to meet the Aussies not one Waimarama player was included. Gr nted that Wattle McKay, the popular all-rounder, would certainly have been playing but for an injury to his shoulder; in Ms absence his club mate, Tu Brightwell, should have been included to give their club representation. Otherwise it looks as though there was a prejudice against Maoris—an innuendo that does not hold in Hawke’s Bay. I might add that if these two players, especially McKay, had been playing there would' have been a very different result. —Yours, etc., “OLD HOCKEYITE.” Waimarama, September 17, 1934.
