Fresh Tax Charges Laid

WASHINGTON, Sept. 16.

Despite the refusal of the Pennsylvania grand jury to indiet Mr Andrew W. Mellon for alleged tax evasion, the Department of Internal Revenue to-day filed a brief with the Board of Tax Appeals accusing Andrew W. Mellon, while Secretary of the Treasury in 1031. with ‘'scheming” to evado taxes aggregating to 3,075,000 dollars.

It was said that he illegally reduced his taxable income by fictitious sales of securities and other devices.

Mr Mellon immediately denied the validity of the brief and reiterated the charge that he was subject to political persecution by the present administration,
