Seven-Mile Road Race Held ANGUS CUP COMPETITION The Hasting* Harrier Club held the fourth event for the Angus Cup on Saturday afternoon, when the chib was again the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. Stickland, Havelock road. A scaled handicap road race of approximately six and a half miles was held, the course being as follow*:—Leaving the residence .the trail followed the main road to Havelock, passing through the village and straight up Joll road and round to Tanner road; turning to the left, the course followed round to Duart road into Ellison road, coming out on the Te Mata road via McLean street; then following round through the village back to Hastings. C. Wright went into an early lead, followed closely by Anderson, Mitchell and G. Spurdie, and at the village the bunch had a 100-yard lead. Over the hills Wright gradually drew away, with Anderson and Mitchell together. Coming out on to Te Mata road O. Spurdie lost the trail and his place in the race, while Heaton and Coles moved up. members were entertained at afternoon tea by Mrs. Stickland and' friends, who were thanked on behalf of the club by Mr. M. Cameron. Next wefck the Hastings and Napier clubs are to compete in a road relay of four-men teams from Hastings to Napier. It is expected that each club will field five teams. SPORTS AT NAPIER RACECOURSE SOME GOOD PERFORMANCES, Members of the Napier Harrier Club held a very enjoyable sports meeting at the Napier Park racecourse on Saturday afternoon. Considering that it was the first time many of the members had run at a meeting of this description some very good performances were registered. two laps of 6i miles of the Otago centre’s championship course. There were 38 starters. The individual race resulted in a win for W. A. C. Pullar, of Otago, who won narrowly from J. G. Barnes, also of Otago. The champion teams’ event resulted in a splendid victory for Otago, who finished with men in 1,2, 3, and 4 positions, giving them the possible of 10 points. This is the first year that the Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Buy Centre has been represented at the national championship, their representatives filling 21, 29, 32 and 24 positions.
