WEDDINGS
POPPELWELL—GORDON. A wedding of considerable local interest was solemnised at St. Benedict's Church, Auckland, on September 12, when Miss Jessie Gordon, of Auckland, was married to Mr Harry Poppelwell, of Hastings, The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Courtney in the presence of a large number of friends. Tho bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr J. Mill, of Frankton, woro a becoming gown of ivory wind-swept satin, cut on simple lines, the graceful folds of tho skirt forming a train. The bodice was tight-fitting and had long, fitting sleeves. The beautiful old Brussells laee veil (lent by a friend of the bride) was confined to the head with a circlet of orange blossoms drawn to the nock at back and falling into n long train over tho frock. A three tier necklet of pearls, and white satin shoes were worn. A beautiful sheath of arum lilies, white hyacinths and maidenhair fern completed a charming toilet. She was attended by Miss Doris Potter, of Auckland, as bridesmaid, who was prettily attired in daffodil georgette cut on long lines and flaring below tho knees to tho ankles, where it was finished with a narrow knifo pleated frill. The bodico was tight fitting with pretty ruclied slcevettes ending in narrow knife pleated frills. Iler pretty hat was of turquoise folded tulle with crown of tiny turquoise vel vet flowers, shoes and mittens matching tho hat. She carried a beautiful sheath of daffodils, blue hyacinth and maidenhair fern.
Aliss Kathleen Bissett, Hie charming little flower girl, looked very sweet in daffodil georgette, made similarly to the bridesmaid’s frock. She wore a cap of tiny turquoise velvet flowers with long tulle streamers tied at neck and falling in long ends over tho frock. Gold shoes were worn. She carried a posy of primroses and blue hymcinth.
Air Doug. Graham, of Hastings, at' tended the bridegroom as best man.
As the bridal party left the church the bride was presented with a satin horse shoo on which was fastened a sprig of white heather. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Afount Eden Tea Kiosk, tho guests being received by Air and Mrs Bissett, thfl latter wearing a smartly-cut French model frock of brown marocain relieved with beige, over which was worn a lovely brown musquash coat, with hat and shoes to tone.
Later the happy couple loft for a motor tour of the North Island, tho bride travelling in a beige and brown ensemble of crepo wool marocain with brown hat, shoes and bag, and a handsome skunk stole.
