A Well-Bred Horse

Tho fine upstanding bay Clydesdale stallion, Bonnie Dale. (2434 vol. 13), owned by Mr J. C. Baird, is to stand the season at Longlauds. Bonnie Dale was loaled on November 13, 1930. His sire was the imported horse Bonnie Dene (840, vol. 3) by Bonnie Buck lyvie. and which later sold lor £5OOO, Bonnie Dene’s sire, Baron Bucklyvie previously selling at the very lino figure of £9500.

Bonnie Dene has bred many prize winners, among which was Canmore—a half-brother to Bonnie Dale and which was the Sydney Royal champion in 1933 and sold at £530. Two other balfbiot,liers to Bonnie Dale, Cyrus and Zal both realised high figures in the sale ring. Bonnie Dale's record in the show ring is a formidable one. As a yearling he won three firsts and the Clydesdale medal at the Hawke's Bay show, and as a two-year-old was first and champion at Hawke’s Bay. He also gained the Clydesdale medal for the best male on the ground. As a three-year-old he was reserve champion at Hawke’s Bay.

His first dam was Lady Bell (1951, vol., 5), bj Bucklyvie Favourite, imp 116955.155 vol. 1) and his second dam, Te Mata Chrysolite (1601, vol., 3), by Staurigg Duke (9684.1028, vol.. 3) Lady Bell has won many firsts nnd was champion at Hawke’s Bay in 1932 as an aged mare She has proved herself as a breeder, having produced Joannie Bell who as a yearling won three firsts the Clydesdale medal and the British Clydesdale medal against all females at Hawke’s Bay Other successes were numerous firsts at Manawatu nnd Hawke's Bay and in 1931 wag champion at Ecmont. also winning the Union Steam Ship Co’s cup, and again in 1933 was champion at the Hawke's Bav show Another daughter.
