MAROONED IN CAVE

Himalayan Climbers

CALCUTTA, September 14.

To be marooned for eight days in an ice cave on a Himalayan peak, at an altitude of 22,000 feet during terrific blizzards, was the experience of fourteen members of the Karakoram international expedition which included Germans, Swiss, Italian, Austrian and Americans.

Frau Dyrhenfurth, the wife of Professor Dyrhenfurth, leader of the party, has returned to Srinagar. She is a famous climber and has reached a height of 24,700 feet, higher than any other woman climber. She states that the party is suffering from terrible cold. She was unable to see for three days, owing to snowblindness.
