WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

PUTORINO MEETING. The September meeting of the Putolino Women’s Institute was well attended, and one new member enrolled. After the routine business had been dealt with, the programme for a further six months was formed. The roll cat!, “Should We Continue to Have Sale Tables i” proved them to be very pooular. Brisk business was done at the sale table, which brought in a substantial sum. A demonstration in the making of fibre trays was then given by Mrs. J, Fleming. This was most interesting, and the finished articles looked both dainty and useful, the demonstrator being accorded a hearty vote of thanks. In the competition, “Best Value for Sixpence,” Mrs. Mabey won first place, while Mesdames Porter and Foster tied for second, and Mrs. H. Young third. The competition “Best Bunch of Spring Flowers” was won by Mrs. Lange, with Mrs. Mabey second', and Mrs. Fleming third. This competition produced a wonderful collection of flowers, which were greatly adlnired. Mrs. L. Jones was the winner of the musidal game. Afternoon tea was then served by the hostesses for the day, Mesdames Porter and A. Mackay, and the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. TAKAPAU GATHERING. Mrs. W. Jackson presided over a large attendance of members of the Takapau Women’s Institute at the monthly meeting held in the Public Hall supper room on Thursday afternoon. The roll call item was a funny story, and members had equipped themselves well for the occasion which evoked much merriment. An invitation was received and accepted for members to attend the birthday meeting of the Ongaonga Institute. An Invitation was also issued to members to attend the Federation meeting to be held at Mulamau at an early date, and Mrs. Kilford was appointed as delegate for the Takapau district. Airs. W. Jackson gave an interesting report of tho Dominion Conference recently held at Wellington. In view of tho Daffodil Show to be held on Wednesday under the auspices of the Takapau Institute Mrs. Jackson gave a demonstration of bulb classification. The papier maehe competition was won by Mrs. White with Miss White second' and Aliss White third. An amusing competition (Telegram) was arranged and carried out by Airs. Pease, All's. A. Jackson being the winner. Final arrangements were made for the Daffodil Show on Wednesday. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames E. I l ’. Stubbs, $.
