TORNADO IN ASSAM
Heavy Casualty List CALCUTTA, May 5 Details have reached here of the appalling havoo wrought by a tornado in the Sulhet district of Assam on April 30. Hitherto over 200 have been reported dead aud several hundreds missing; 500 were injured. Scores of villages were destroyed and thousands of inhabitants are homeless. It is feared that the death roll will be much heavier in remote districts as scores of human bodies and animals aro floating daily down the river Surma, where many fishing fleets and ferry boats have been overwhelmed. Relief parties haio been sent to the affected area.
