HASTINGS RACES

AN ENJOYABLE DAY. PERSONALITIES AND FROCKS. The brilliant sunshine and windless day on Saturday contributed greatly to the undoubted enjoyment of those who attended the second day of the autumn meeting held by the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club. Many interested racing people were seen watching the horses before the events, and the various races created great enthusiasm amongst the throngs of people who crowded the stands. The Hastings Citizens’ Band also did its part towards the general pleasure, for music always brings brightness and enlivens such a gathering considerably. Amongst those seen on the lawn were:— Mrs. Beatson, wife of the president, who wore a tailored eoat and skirt in tine navy blue tweed with a blouse oi ivory satin, and a navy blue and white hat; Mrs. J. S. McLeod, black wool coat and skirt finely flecked with white, and a black hat, and mink furs; Mrs. 11. S. Aloss, navy blue and white model frock with a navy blue scarf, and navy blue straw hat with stitched band of ivory and dark blue; Mrs. T. H. Lowry (Okawa), long frock of light navy blue crepe patterned in white, with a navy blue hat with crown of silk-plait straw; Mrs. Ralph Lowry (Taihape), ivory crepe frock with narrow diagonal stripes in Oriental colours, worn with a beige coat and small felt hat; Mrs. J. N. Lowry (Oreka), shrimp-pink Kasha suit with a small design in ivory and an ivory hat of fine straw; Mrs. Morris, ensemble of navy blue wool irepe with touches of white and a white and navy blue hat; Mrs. R. Bridge, French-grey ensemble of fine wool with a long coat and a small frieze hat of jade green ; Mrs. Percy Wall (Hatuma), navy blue and white finely figured frock with a vesteo of ivory and flame crepe do chine, and a navy blue hat with relief of flame and ivory; Mrs. A. Symes, long prettily fitting frock of black marocnin, relieved at the V neckline with beige, and a black hat; Mrs. J. J. Gatenby (To Awanga), tailored coat and skirt of greige Angora tweed cut on straight lines with a pretty

scarf and small brown hat; Mrs. Giorgctti (Crissoge), black cloth tailored coat and skirt, with a pretty blouse, black hat, and squirrel furs; Mrs. T. V. Morrin, a black cloth suit cut on plain tailored lines with a black felt hat; Mrs. Landels, gracefully made frock of grey crepe de chine with a floral design of grey white and cherry shade, worn with a long tailored coat of grey, and a black hat; Mrs. W. A. Whitlock, model frock of cocoa-brown reversible satin made with the new high neckline fastening on each shoulder with a studded clasp, and sleeves with little satin capelets. A small closelyfitting hat was worn of the same brown as the frock ; Mrs. J. Macfarlane (Glenaros), floral frock in tones of grey and oyster with a. short swagger eoat of navy blue silk crepe,' and a navy blue hat ; Mrs. F. Fryer, finely patterned crepe de chine frock and a beige tailored coat of heavy ribbed cloth with mink furs; Mrs. Frank Gordon (Clifton), model ensemble of marine blue crepe with a little white and blue checked waistcoat effect, hat of blue with a white corded hand, and silver fox furs; Mrs. W. R. Stead, a beige wool coat over a pretty silk frock, with a fawn hat; Mrs. J. Kelly, smart ensemble of nigger-brown in large two-toned checks, with a brown blouse, and closely-fitting small brown hat; Mrs. Adam Bell, navy blue sand- ■ rope frock, with an effective design in white, worn with a navy blue coat and hat of navy blue trimmed with white; Mrs. C. Small, tailored coat and skirt of darkgreen and white finely patterned wool with a wide brimmed hat of rough straw; Mrs. Tosswill, navy blue coat and skirt with a beige blouse and navy blue hat: Mrs. E. Clark (Napier), a black tailored’ ensemble, smartly relieved with white and a becoming black hat ; Mrs. Cameron tailored frock in violet cloth with a violet hat and wide stole of mink fur; Mrs. R. Pufflett, smart coat and skirt of black tailored elephant crepe, with a beige crepe blouse, and small black beret hat; Mrs. I). Douglas, dark mulberry wool crepe frock in moulded design with a flared flounce and a white beret; Mrs. Wallace, dark green wool crepe coat and skirt with a green hat and sable fur; Mrs. Melrose, charming frock of bottlegreen georgette with a swagger coat of green wool, a black straw hat with a bow at the back; All’s.
