EASTER TOURNAMENTS Napier Club’s Success NOTES AND COMMENTS (By “Stymie.”) The Napier club’s Easter tournament onco again proved a very popular fixture, and some excellent scores were handed in. The course was in wonderful order, which no doubt accounts for the high standard of the scoring. R. I. Harrison annexed the cnampionship after consistent, rounds, and his match against Kapi Tareha produced some wonderful scoring. To complete the course in 73 and then to bo defeated by one stroke was indeed high class golf, and Harrison is to be congratulated on his victory. Kapi Tarehj produced some fireworks in his match against Troutbeck. His score for the last three holes after being three down was 4,2, 3, four strokes under par, to square the match, and then continued to win on the 2Uth with a birdie 3. Havelock Tourney. The Havelock tournament a>so proved a success, although the entries were small. With the water recently laid on, the greens were in wonderful order. Havelock is a hard course to score on, and P. Peacock’s aggregate of 322 for lour rounds represented consistent golf. Ho was closely followed by K. Duthie, with 323, who, but for a bad lapse of putting at the commencement of thu final round, should have cut at least four strokes off his aggregate. The Havelock Club is to bo congratulated on its initiative in running this tournament after bo short a time, t and one feels sure that in future years they will receive more support from the local players.

The Hastings Club. “Stymie” recently had a round of the Hastings course at Bridge Pa which, for this time of the season, is in wonderful condition. The fairways arc well grassed and the greens, although still somewhat patchy, arc coming away well, and by the opening date, next Saturday, the course should be in excellent order. The reventh hole has been cut cut-in the meantime to give members an opportunity of trying the new 16th., which, in my opinion, is an excellent hole and provides variety to the course. The committee would be well advised to proceed with a programme of bunkering. At present a large number of the holes are far too open and require tightening up- With the light nature of the soil and country several of the holes could be bunkered at a verysmall cost.

Kirk Wlndeyer Cup. The contest for the Kirk-Windeyer Cup, which commenced at Middlemore, Auckland, yesterday, is engaging tnu interest of the golfing world. The New South Wales representatives, consisting of W. R. Dolison, C. C. Ruwald, E. L. Apperley, P. F. Hughes, and H. M. Cutler competed in the Titirangi Easter championship. Dobson qualified top with a score of 152 and Ruwald also qualified in the first 16. to be defeated by McEwan in the third round. The three remaining players qualified in the second 16. Dobson was defeated in the semi-final. . Of the New Zealand team, T. H. Horton and B. M. Silk, with scores of 157, qualified 4th. equal, and the former, who was playing brilliant golf, eventually reached the final. The other representative, J. P. Hornabrook, after a disappointing first round, took 40 for the first half of the second round and followed this with an inglorious 10 at the 12th.

In a practice round at Middlemore Horton returned a brilliant 72, while the other scores were Silk 74, Hornabrook and Wright 76 eijch. This represents steady scoring, and the challenging New South Wales team will have to be playing their best to defeat the Dominion side.
