THE STRANDED JAP
Now a Total Wreck (By Telegraph—Press Assn—Copyright.) (Received 6 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 6. The steamer Jap is now a total wreck. Salvaging of the timber cargo is being undertaken. The wooden coastal steamer Jap ran aground on Tuesday on a sandspit in the vicinity of Capo Hawke. The vessel, which'is 242 tons gross, is owned by Coastal. Steamships, Ltd. The Jap had a full load of timber for Sydney. She had been bar-bound for several days and was being towed to sea when she grounded. The crew abandoned the vessel.
