A & P. SOCIETY

Meeting of Executive The monthly meeting of the executive of the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Society was hold at the Tomouna showgrounds to-day, Mr. J. H. Macniven presiding over a good attendance of members. Messrs. Carlile, McLean, Scanned and Wood wrote forwarding a cheque for £250, being balance of the £5OO legacy bequeathed to the society by the late Sir R. D. D. McLean.—Ou the motion of the chairman, this was left in the hands of the treasurer and finance committee to find a suitable investment. The bon. secretary of Vie Hastings Jersey Breeders’ Club wrote advising that they were under a misapprehension as to the entry fees and their estimates were based on a higher fee; therefore the amount of £2l 3/- is beyond the financial resources of the club. As members realise, however, the circumstances of the society, they will, in addition to the donation of £7, pay half the balance, namely £7 1/6, which the secretary trusted would meet with the approval of the committee. —On the motion of the chairman this offer was accepted. Mr. James Lyons wrote enclosing cheque for £5 towards the Waikoko Tree Fund aid expressing appreciation of the society's action in purchasing the property, which was much admired by a large number of visitors at the Autumn Show. —Received with thanks. Mr. W. H. Nelson wrote expressing pleasure at the society’s decision to purchase Waikoko, as it always had been the wish of his late father that the society should do so, and forwarding £lO towards the purchase of tins big plane tree on the lawn if same had nut already been bespoken; further stating that he understood the interpretation of Waikoko was “bubbling water” that name having been given to the property after artesian wells had been sunk. —Received with thanks. Mr. L. R. Fuller wrote expressing tho opinion that it would be an improvement if all cattle and horses were paraded at both the spring and autumn shows and pointing out that there was no parade of cattle at tho Autumn Show.—ln moving that this matter be left in the hands of tho revision committee, Mr. Macniven said that the idea was good, but tho exhibitors should find and pay for their own leaders. The cost to the society for the last Spring Show was about £l5. The President of the H.B. Kennel Association wrote stating that in view of tho small subscription charged to his members, namely 2/6, it was very difficult to meet expenses incurred, more particularly in conducting the kennel section at the show, and -asking if the society could see its way to eoutribute to the hon. secretary’s honorarium.—The executive decided to make a grant of £5 to the association for this year. A report from the grounds committee, embodying a number of proposals in connection with the Waikoko gardens and the cutting and topping of several trees in the showgrounds, the provision of extra accommodation in the produce hall, and other matters, was adopted. A report from the forestry sub-com-mittee making suggestions as to the planting of trees, tho testing of posts and the arrangement of forestry exhibits at future shows was adopted.
