The third day of the autumn meeting of the A.J.C. was held at Randwick in fine weather. The track was in excellent condition. Chatham gave further proof of his being the beet miler in Australia by decisively defeating Kuvera and Rogilla. Golden Wings finished sixth. Great Legend caused a surprise by winning the Champagne Stakes. Sir John did not flatter his supporters. Peter Pan had an easy victory in the Cumberland Plate after Oro had tried to steal the race. Silver Scorn, always a good way from the leaden, failed at the finish. The prize money for the Cumberland Plate will be reduced from £lOOO to £5OO owing to the condition that the race must be run in 3,35 or under, Today’s race was so ridiculously slow. 3.395, that the first prize, instead of being £775, automatically drops to £387 10/-. Nine started. Arimanes ww the early leader from Limbo and Master Oolin, but commencing the last half mile these three dropped out of the running. Hustler and Grey Abbott appeared to be fighting out the finish when Grecian Knight came with a late run to snatch victory by half a neck. Time, 3.43. ALL-AGED PLATE Weight-for-Age. Of £1500; 1 mil*. Golden Wings led the field to the half-mile, followed by Closing Time, Kuvera and Chatham First into the straight was Closing Time, but Chatham then ran to the front, with Kuvera and Rogilla coming up fast Chatham, however, was untroubled at the finish, winning comfortably by a length and a half, with Rogilla half a length away. Ranchero was first to show out and led to the half-mile, where Persian took charge from Ranchero, Babili and Jimmie Boy. l- n W the straight Persian led Celebrate and Ranchero, but in an exciting finish Celebrate triumphed by three-quarters of a length. Arachne was ecratchedWhen the field settled down The Marne led Sun Clad and Myra Tip. The Marne held the lead into the straicht, followed by Great Legend, Myra Tip and Dark Sky. At the distance Great Legend got to the front and, stalling off ’ en B e , Marne, won by a length, with Dark Skv three quarters of a length away third. Sir John was fourth. Time, 1.13. Past the judge the first time Oro was ahead of Heroic Prince and Peter Pan. With a mile to go Oro led by four lengths from Heroic Prince and Peter Pan. The latter ran into second place at the six furlongs. The positions were unaltered into the straight.
