LAMBS SELL WELL

Stortford Lodge Sale FEW BREEDING EWES Approximately 12,000 store sheep were entered at Stortford Lodge yesterday, lambs predominating in the entry. Ewes were in moderate supply, while very few wethers were offered. The quality of the yarding was mixed, there being some good lambs entered, but the ewes offered included relatively few lines of good breeding sheep. On lambs the market was on a par to slightly easier on last week. Ewes made rates which showed little change, and wethers were much the same. On all good lines demand was fairly steady, but on poorer sorts there was not a great deal of competition. Some of the entries and prices paid, from which an idea of the state of the market may be obtained, were as follow:— A line of 122 well-framed Romney crossbred woolly wether lambs carrying plenty of condition, started out at 13/9 to realise 15/9, passing at this figure. In from Haumoana, a pen of 86 fattening ewes, well-framed and carrying good store to forward order, sold at 14/6. In from Argyle and on account of Mr McMillan, a pen of 95 woolly whiteface wether lambs, well-framed and in good order, realised 16/10. Small-framed and carrying light finish, a pen of 101 woolly wether lambs realised 13/-. Mixed in the wool, mixed in the mouths and fairly framed, a pen of 45 store conditioned 5-yr. ewes, down from the Kaiwakas, sold at 13/9. Sixty-four shorn whiteface wether lambs, fairly framed and carrying good store to forward order, made 1481. A bid of 17/1 secured a pen of 45 Romney crossbred wether lambs wellgrown and woolled, and in from Crownthorpe.
