The number of sheep dispatched by red trom Waipukurau for the year ended March 31 last shows an increase on previous totals of 46,725, the figures on this occasion being 317,391. Since 1929 there has been a continued increase. In that year the number of sheep railed from Waipukurau was 195,387 and in 1933 2'0,666, the increase giving a true indication of the steady progress of the sheep-raising industry in Central Hawke's Bay Further returns for the year ended March 31, 1934, with those of the previous year in parentheses, are as follow:—Outwards traffic: Cattle, 4830 (6298); timber, 473 tons (3 tons); goods, 4062 tons (4213 tons); passengers, 3519 ( 3003); revenue, £17,206 (£17,406). Inwards traffic: Cattle, 803 head (2394); sheep, 9781 (15,049); timber, 541 tons (173 tons); goods, 8398 tons (7566 tons); passengers, 14,728 (12,999); revenue, £11,910 (£12,340). VITAL STATISTICS.
