Solution of Unemployment By Telegraph—Press Assoeiation. CHRISTCHURCH, April 4. The policy of the Labour Party for the solution of unemployment was debated at the annual conference of the party to-day. The following policy was re-affirmed: "The Labour Party, when it assumes the government of the country, will set into operation schemes for the organisation of production, productive and development work mainly on the land, and land development and settlement; the completion of necessary public works; the construction of back-block roads, secondary and main highways; assistance to local authorities to undertake approved works; and financial assistance for the development of secondary industries.”

The conference also declared that the Labour policy should provide for the restoration of all wage and salary cuts, a six-hour day for shift workers in industry and a 35-hour week for other workers
