ENGLISH EASTER

HEAVY ROAD TRAFFIC Two Railway Accidents MANY VISITORS TO LONDON (British Official Wireless.) (Received 4, 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, April 3. Holiday traffic to seaside resorts by the railways suffered some diminution yesterday owing to cold winds, but the weather was dry, and in southern England sunny. Motor traffic on the roads into the country was exceptionally heavy. It is estimated that at the peak period last night homeward-bound motor cars passed a point on the Bath Road at Hounslow at the rate of 3000 an hour. At many other busy points the congestion was almost equally heavy. A large number of road accidents were reported, several fatal. Two railway accidents occurred during the holidays. Six passengers were injured in a London-North Eastern excursion train, which was in collision with a light engine near Kilburn, London, and the driver was taken to hospital in a serious condition. At Glasgow central station late last night a light engine crashed into a London, Midland and Scottish stationary train, and 21 persons were reported injured, but only six were detained in hospital.

A very large number of visitors from the country made excursions to London during the day, and music and art galleries proved popular, while over 69,000 persons visited the zoological gardens.
