Hawke’s Bay v. Poverty Bay The annual cricket match between the Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay junior representatives, played this Easter at Gisborne, was won by Hawke’s Bay by 128 runs. Hawke’s Bay batted first and made 166 (Boggs 38; McLean six wickets for 19). Poverty Bay made only 67, Wilson being the most successful bowler, taking five for 23. In the second innings Boggs and Jefferey gave Hawke’s Bay a good start in the opening partnership, which yielded 55 runs. The innings closed for 1-53. The former made 49 and the latter 35. McLean, Barber, C. Scholium and L. Scholium shared the wickets. Poverty Bay’s second innings yielded 124 (L. Scholium 34). Wilson, Smith and Boggs divided the wickets.
