RUGBY PREPARATIONS

PIRATES CLUB MEETS. MANY NEW MEMBERS. The annual meeting of the Napier Pirates football Club was held at the club's pavilion, McLean Park, last evening. The vice-patron, Mr E. T. Rees, presided over a large attendance of supporters. The annual report, published yesterday morning, and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The latter showed an excess of assets over liabilities amounting to £370 13/2. The chairman congratulated the club on the excellent condition of the finances. The following new members were elected: —l, W. Findlay, B. Carter, K. Bringham, G. Franks, E. Algie, K. Cresswell. S. Jones, M. Girvan, D. Harrison, S. J- Hargreaves, W. Hammond, D. Dowrick, H. R. McKinley and W. S Taylor. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr W. Corbett; vicepatron, Mr E. T. Rees; president, Mr B. Tweedie; vice-presidents, Messrs E. A. Young, T. E. Stanford, G. G. Stanford, A, Annan, P. Cleary and H. H. Douglas; club captain, Mr R. Callinan; vice-club captain, Mr G. Bailey; honorary physical instructor, SergeantMajor J. H. Kearney; custodian, Mr E. Algie; coaches, to be left to the incoming committee; honorary auditor, Mr G. C. Laws; honorary secretary, Mr F. A. Foote; honorary treasurer, Mr J. W. Laws; delegates to the H.B. R.U., Messrs B. Treedie and E. A. Young; executive committee, Messrs Carter, Dowrick, Hildebrandt, Hyde, Keeble, Marshall and McKenzie. The first practice of the 1934 season is t.o be next Tuesday evening, when the club’s gymnasium will be available. The subscriptions were fixed as follow: —Seniors 7/6, juniors 5/-, thirds 3/6. Members present carried a hearty vote of thanks to last year's custodian, Mr H. Scoble. The president, Mr B. Tweedie, paid a tribute to the excellent work done by Mr Scoble in the interests of the club. The services of the honorary secretary, Mr F. A. Foote, were also thoroughly appreciated.
